3 Tips for selecting vacation rentals

You go on vacation to Hawaii, spend a couple of weeks in paradise, and come home happy and poor. This is how much of our nation relaxes, and it’s perfectly fine, but could there be a way to enjoy yourself and save some money while you’re at it?

There certainly is – you just need to get out of the hotel. The lovely auberges that cater to vacationers and tourists are certainly friendly spots that will coddle you and wait on you hand and foot. A whole staff is there to wipe every spill and lunge after every dropped handkerchief. But what if you could use less service and more space?

Enter vacation rentals. These are essentially apartments that are leased out on their own, and not as part of a well-greased hospitality mechanism, so if you are a person who appreciates being able to set your own schedule, they are right up your alley.

  1. For one, they’re cheaper. A rental can cost as much as a third less per day than a night at a hotel – and you’re getting an average of 1,850 square feet to stretch your legs in, as opposed to an average of 325 square feet of a hotel room.
  2. Vacation rentals are, in effect, apartments. The majority of them have kitchens with stoves and refrigerators, so if you want to try your hand at island cooking, you have all the space to experiment. They also have dining spaces, so you’re not shoehorned into breakfast buffet hours, and aren’t forced to eat surrounded with clanking utensils and hotel dining-room to-do.
  3. To make your stay family-friendly, many rentals have children’s devices such as playpens and cribs. If you select a rental that offers such amenities in advance, you won’t need to haul any furniture with you on the airplane – something you will be thankful for as you go through check-in and security.

If you’re looking for a relaxed, unstructured time on your vacation, look into condo rentals – lower expenses, less stress, and more space for your family. What could be nicer?
